Awesome Ladies #2: Tavi Gevinson

Tavi Gevinson  I just found out about this girl like, 5 minutes ago and I’m just so impressed with everything she does and stands for. First of all I have to mention that she’s 16. She was born in 1996. Remember those numbers when you read about everything she’s accomplished in the teensy amount of time she’s been on the planet.

Gevinson is a writer, editor, actress and singer but she is most well known for her blog Style Rookie, which she started when she was 12. Yep, 12.  Style Rookie started out as a fashion blog but shifted focus to include discussion of pop culture, feminism, and advice for teens. In 2011 and 2012 she appeared on Forbes Magazine’s 30 under 30 list.

“One thing that can be very alienating about the misconception of feminism is that girls then think that to be a feminist you have to live up to being perfectly consistent in your beliefs – never being insecure, never having doubts, having all of the answers. This is not true and actually reconciling all the contradictions I was feeling became easier once I understood that feminism is not a rulebook, but a discussion, a conversation, a process.”

Aside from promoting positive messages for teens, specifically teenage girls, her blog is just beautiful to look at. I would say this girl’s gonna go far in her life, but she’s already accomplished so much. It’s really great to see a positive role model for young girls getting the attention she deserves.
